1805 Meetinghouse

Sunday, 3 June, 2018
Pennypack Baptist Church holds its annual Pennepack Day Celebration our 1688 founding on the first Sunday in June each year.
This year’s Pennepack Day, our 330th Anniversary, will be held Sunday, June 3 at the 1805 Meetinghouse and ancient Burial Ground (first burial 1692) at 8732 Krewstown Rd 19115, in NE Philadelphia.   The theme this year is “Celebrating Our Welsh Heritage”.
Of the twelve charter members at the 1688 establishment of the church, five were baptized members of the Dolau Baptist Church at Nantwel, Radnorshire, Wales: Sarah Eaton, her brothers John and George Eaton, George’s wife Jane,  and Samuel Jones.  They arrived in Philadelphia in Nov 1683 and were settled on Pennypack Creek by early 1684.  They were the immediate and continuing driving force of Pennepack Baptist Church.  Our Welsh heritage is deeply appreciated and acknowledged.

The festivities will start at 10 AM with a procession up Krewstown Road from the Creek to the Church with a Founders Ceremony in the Cemetery at 10:30 AM.

Pennepack Baptist will have a Communion Service at 11 AM in the Meetinghouse.

Activities at the church parking lot and along Krewstown Road and at Pennypack Creek will run from 10 AM to 4 PM.

The Meetinghouse will be open to the public from about 12:30 PM (after the service) to 3:30 PM. There will be tours of the ancient burial ground. At the creek there will be nature and history tours and many other exhibitions and activities. Don’t miss Baptismal Rock!

The festivities will end with an Anniversary Service at 4 PM in the Meetinghouse led by Rev Owen Griffiths.

We are also looking forward to the singing of outstanding soloist Katherine Crusi. The Welsh Society is warmly invited to attend and participate in all of the day’s events.
